Former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning recommended Adam Gase to the New York Jets during their head coach search, according to NFL Network's Jeff Darlington. Not counting Bill Belichick's one day stint in 2000, Gase is the first head coach hired by the Jets with past head coaching experience since Bill Parcells (1997).
The recently fired Dolphins head coach has a new job. The 60-year-old Williams served as the Browns defensive coordinator for 2017-18 before taking over for the deposed Hue Jackson.
Even with two National Football League head coaching vacancies still unfilled, former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy will not be coaching in the National Football League in 2019. Injuries and personnel errors doomed the Dolphins, and they were never close to contention in Gase's tenure again.
Gase was 23-26 in three seasons with Miami, including a playoff game in 2016, before being fired last week.More news: Family, community rallies for slain 7-year-old girl Jazmine Barnes
McCarthy was sacked by the Packers on December 1.
Miami faces the Jets twice a year, as both are in the AFC East.
The Jets did not have a great 2018 season under Todd Bowles as they went a disappointing 4-12. Loggains previously worked under Gase in the same capacity with the Dolphins.
Jets job is trending toward a Matt Rhule hire. They likely are interested in him with the hope he could groom quarterback Sam Darnold the same way he did with Aaron Rodgers.
