Turkey seeks arrest of Saudi crown prince allies over Khashoggi


Corker was joined by Senator Lindsey Graham, who had a scathing reaction after hearing from Haspel about the CIA's conclusions on the October 2 killing in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. He added on The Story with Martha MacCallum that "there's a certain price to be paid" if Saudi Arabia wants to remain an ally with the U.S.

The US Senate bill says the Qatar blockade has hindered Washington's "counterterrorism and counter-Iran objectives" in the region.

"And the second thing is what is in the best interest of the United States and this is a very, very hard challenge because we have to, on one hand, hold them accountable, including the crown prince, for whatever action he may be involved with", the Utah congressman said.

Dianne Feinstein introduced the resolution, which says that the Senate has a "high level of confidence" that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was "complicit" in the murder.

That measure is meant to hold the Saudi crown prince "accountable" for contributing to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, a blockade of Qatar, the jailing of dissidents and Khashoggi's death but it imposes no penalties on Riyadh. Chris Murphy, a Democrat Connecticut who co-sponsored a bipartisan resolution calling for an end to the United States role in Yemen.

Corker said he's not certain he would support pulling back from Yemen but that "I deserve the right" to back a withdrawal of U.S. involvement in the war effort. "We categorically reject any accusations purportedly linking the Crown Prince to this horrific incident".

He then offered a veiled criticism of Trump. That afternoon, senators frustrated with the briefing and the lack of response to Khashoggi's killing overwhelmingly voted to move forward with consideration of the Yemen resolution, 63-37.

The CIA had concluded the killing was ordered by the crown prince based on audio recordings, communication intercepts and a general understanding of politics in the kingdom under him.

Echoing his GOP colleague following the Central Intelligence Agency briefing, Sen. "I went in believing the crown prince was directly responsible or at least complicit in this and my feeling was strengthened by the information".

"If someone said Secretary Mattis or Pompeo were dishonest, they just don't know those individuals", Stewart told CNN.

Corker said Haspel gave the "most precise presentation I've ever heard in 12 years" in her briefing on the Khashoggi murder.
