McMahon, the league's founder, said he's confident the XFL will stick around this time because it has a long-term financial commitment and there is a "clamoring" from TV networks for live sports events.
St. Louis is the only XFL home city that does not have a current National Football League team after the Rams moved back to Los Angeles in 2016.
"We are proud to restore the River City's rightful place among pro football cities and we will not stop there", the XFL said in a statement.
Los Angeles, the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area and Dallas were among the eight cities and venues chosen to be the home sites when the XFL launches its inaugural season in February 2020. Louis, Seattle and Washington also will field teams. "In 2020, St. Louis will once again have its day in the world of professional football".

XFL is coming back and at this point, it seems like Vince McMahon and his company are planning something to make this as big of a deal as possible. After a seven-year hiatus from the National Football League, fans got another team to support when the Los Angeles Rams moved to St. Louis in 1995 and then won the Super Bowl after the 1999 season.
McMahon's league played one season in 2001 and then was disbanded.
McMahon is once again betting on America's insatiable appetite for gridiron, playing a 10-game regular season followed by postseason and a championship game during the winter and spring months when the National Football League has concluded.
