76ers expect Markelle Fultz to return, play role off bench

The Sixers (14-8) will next host the Knicks (7-14) at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday. The rumors keep pouring out as Fultz is now on another hiatus due to his shoulder and wrist problems that randomly popped up over the last week.

Whether Fultz wants a trade or not, his availability was inquired about, as according to Amico Hoops, the Cavaliers spoke to Philadelphia about the 2017 No. 1 draft pick. His biggest strengths from college have now become his biggest weaknesses, and apparently, his entourage behind the scenes has created a bit of a problem for the second-year guard. Per Wojnarowski, that decision has been left to Fultz and his representatives. At this point, they are getting nothing from Fultz as he continues to sit out.

Reserve point guard T.J. McConnell is in his fourth National Basketball Association season, all coming with the 76ers. He was on the bench for the Sixers' last two home games, a 121-120 home win against the New Orleans Pelicans on November 21 and a 121-112 home loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on November 23.

Fultz stepped away from Philadelphia last week in order to deal with a shoulder injury and the team reportedly no longer saw him in its long-term plans. Here are three reasons as to why the Cavaliers should be pursuing a trade to bring Fultz to Cleveland.

Fultz was the starting shooting guard for the first 15 games of the season before the Sixers acquired Jimmy Butler.

"The possibility of Fultz moving on is understandable considering how confusing things have been with the Sixers", Pompey wrote. Per Wojnarowski, though, the Sixers have stopped listening to trade overtures for McConnell. It says that Fultz is far from off-limits. "The Sixers keep saying they will do whatever is best for Fultz, but the situation has overshadowed the success the team has had this season".
