One of the most genuine and honest people in sports, Cormier heaped praised upon Lewis' power, but it was never a factor.

Daniel Cormier has set a deadline for his retirement in early 2019, and that means a win over Derrick Lewis at UFC 230 Saturday night in NY might leave room for just one more fight in his career.

Back when he was in college, Lewis was sent to prison for 3 and a half years after violating probation stemming from a case where he beat the hell out of a Ku Klux Klan member who had a shotgun. He celebrated with his family in the cage as Lewis trudged out, still in his trunks unlike the last fight that made him a quick star.

"At around 12, 1 o'clock it was to the point where I was kind of singed over and leaning and Bob Cook said, 'If you don't get better then we're going to have to make a decision on whether or not you're going to fight, '" Daniel Cormier stated. The tapout followed soon after. "If you have a puncher's chance, that's not enough".

Daniel Cormier becomes the first double division champion to defend both belts! What Lewis didn't expect was a call to fight Cormier for the belt in less than a month's time. "I feel like being a WWE champion, too".

The closest Cormier came to defeat on Saturday was apparently early on fight day, when he claims he threw out his back. due to a sneeze. Cormier will be stripped of his light heavyweight title and the 205-pound crown will go to the victor of the Jon Jones-Alexander Gustafsson bout at UFC 232 on December 29 in Las Vegas.

After the fight, Joe Rogan asked Cormier what he thought about a potential showdown with 41-year-old Brock Lesnar.
