Klopp hails Loris Karius' Anfield reception

Liverpool fans are hoping fervently that their Croatian defender, who recently shaved his head, can build on his displays at the World Cup and have a strong season for the club.

According to the Evening Standard Liverpool forward Danny Ings looks set to leave the club today, with Crystal Palace and Southampton leading the way for the Englishman's signature.

Blighted by injury, Ings has made just 25 appearances in three years at Liverpool and the presence of Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge, and Dominic Solanke at Anfield means playing time may be increasingly hard to come by.

Klopp responded by signing 25-year-old Brazil global Alisson Becker from AS Roma, smashing the world record for a goalkeeper in a deal worth up to €72.5 million euros ($84 million).

You put the players in this Liverpool squad down on paper and Klopp could pick two very competitive teams that would be capable of winning matches in the Premier League and Champions League on a consistent basis.

"Dejan (Lovren) is in but he's not had a long holiday [after the World Cup final]".

There was also another promising display from 21-year-old Nathaniel Phillips, who played nearly the full 90 minutes at centre-back, and a nice moment midway through the second half when Loris Karius, whose errors contributed to Liverpool's defeat in last season's Champions League final, replaced Alisson to huge cheers from the home crowd.

"I think the gap is too big to breach so quickly for some of the other teams chasing, like Liverpool and [Manchester] United. It is nothing serious but it was not possible tonight as he played on Saturday", he said. "I have no clue in the moment what we will do at the weekend".

Liverpool have looked impressive during their preparations for the new season, which they will begin by welcoming West Ham to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
