Monaco considering move for Chelsea's David Luiz

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has grown exhausted of having to prove himself after being dropped by manager Antonio Conte for several key matches this season.

Cahill remains Chelsea's captain, a role he took on full-time following John Terry's departure a year ago and Conte suggested a period of adjustment has been necessary in the club icon's absence.

Conte believes he deserves an England recall: 'In this moment he's deserving to play.

Cahill was an unused substitute for matches against Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Barcelona over recent months. He's in good physical condition.

Speaking to reporters at Cobham on Friday, Conte said of the defender: "I don't know, I don't know".

Should Chelsea somehow succeed in overhauling Tottenham - who also have four games remaining - or indeed third-place Liverpool who have played a game more but have an eight point advantage over the Blues, Conte would be feted a hero once more. He he has played big competitions.

Luiz has started just nine Premier League and four UEFA Champions League games for the West Londoners this season.

"I have the opportunity to rotate the three central defenders and make the best decision game by game". He may be in the twilight of his career at the Bridge and indeed on the worldwide stage, but his experience and the motivation for one last hurrah for club and country could make him a serious asset to Conte as he bids to salvage something memorable from Chelsea's otherwise disappointing season.

"It wasn't simple replacing John Terry because we are talking about a great leader", he explained. I think Gary developed a lot this year'.
