Clemson projected as No. 3 seed in NCAA tournament

Xavier (23-3) and Purdue (23-4) would get No. 1 seeds if the NCAA men's basketball tournament started Sunday, according to a bracket preview released by the selection committee. The show only projected the top four seeds in each region.

But in the eyes of the NCAA Tournament selection committee, the Spartans still have work to do become a No. 1 or a No. 2 seed in next month's tournament.

March 11th the official NCAA Tournament Bracket will be announced.

Villanova was selected as the second No. 1 seed (East Region). "They have a great strength of schedule and they're 10-1 from home".

The East bracket feeds into regional semifinal and regional championship games at the TD Garden in Boston. "Purdue had two tough losses to quality teams, while Xavier picked up two good road wins to solidify the fourth No. 1 seed and ultimately leap Purdue on the seed list".

With Duke, Clemson and North Carolina also included, the ACC comprised 25 percent of the top 16.

The setback may have denied the Cavaliers the top spot in the Associated Press media poll due Monday - they were No. 2 last week behind Villanova. That's fewer than most other teams in the top 16. "You just embrace the challenge and you go at it a game at a time. It's about your quality and how you play and continuing on in a conference race". Previously, Clemson has been a No. 4 seed on two occasions.
