Police Hunt Couple Accused Of Murdering 4-Year-Old

A manhunt is underway for a MI woman and her boyfriend charged in the death of the woman's 4-year-old daughter, who suffered injuries that included severe burns on her arms and legs.

WILX reports Fields has also previously been accused of assaulting Diaz, shooting her dog and then shooting himself.

Gabby's father and grandparents stated that Diaz had custody of the 4-year-old girl when she died.

Severe burns covered the little girl's extremities, according to police who responded to a 911 call at the Sumpter Township, Mich., mobile home park, just before 11 a.m. on January 1.

Gabby was rushed to hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

The medical examiner's office told WDIV that the girl did not die from the burns but said she was murdered - beaten to death.

A manhunt is underway for Diaz and Fields, and they are believed to be driving a black 2002 Chevy Cavalier bearing MI license plate DTR 1854, pictured below.

U.S. Marshals located and arrested Brad E. Fields, 28, and girlfriend Candice R. Diaz, 24, about 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 near Lake Park, Georgia, according to Sumpter Township police. She would run around the house when we had her always with a big ole smile on her face", adding, "Keep flying, Gabby.

Police also uncovered drug paraphernalia and a cache of weaponry.

Fields was charged with aggravated domestic violence, possession of a firearm as a felon and felony firearm, but the charges were ultimately dropped, according to court records.

"We didn't know. We would have gone" and removed her from the home, he said.

The investigation began after police responded to the home in Sumpter Township and the child wasn't breathing.

Gabby's grandmother, Deborah Barrett, described the little girl as a "ball of joy".

Gabrielle Barrett had an upbeat personality and loved the movie Frozen, said her grandfather, Jerry Barrett, 47.

She pleaded guilty to both counts and was sentenced to three days in Wayne County Jail and two years probation.

Meanwhile, Diaz and her boyfriend, Fields, fled the scene and are now on the run.

A GoFundMe page initially set up to help her family bury her has since been removed, but a second one has been established.
