Manhunt underway for suspected cop killer in Washington state


It's being reported by the Pierce County Sheriff's Office that the shooting occurred at a home in the Spanaway area.

34-year-old Daniel McCartney was shot when responding to a burglary in Frederickson, Washington around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night.

Authorities have identified a sheriff's deputy shot and killed while responding to a home invasion as a Navy veteran and father of three young boys.

The Sheriff's Department says one suspect was found dead at the scene, but another male suspect is still at large and is considered armed and risky.

There are road closures as a result, and the Bethel School District has now made a decision to close its schools today.

A manhunt for the second suspect is underway.

Sheriff Paul Pastor said the slain officer had served with the force for three years. The deputy had been transported to a hospital in Tacoma before he died. A male suspect was found dead at the scene.

All schools in the Bethel School District, have been closed for the day as a precaution.

The department asked in a Facebook posting that the deputy's family, friends, and the department be kept in people's thoughts and prayers and that media avoid the area because of the ongoing search for the suspect.

A legacy fund has been set up at TAPCO Credit Union for the fallen deputy's family.
