DeWanda Wise joins the cast of Marvel's 'Captain Marvel'

Wise's casting is well-deserved after she earned ample praise for her role as Nola Darling.

Ever since Marvel announced that Carol Danvers' Captain Marvel would be leading her own movie over three years ago, fans have been hoping and dreaming and wishing and praying that the film might also see the cinematic debut of another badass female heroine who once held the mantle of Captain Marvel. Wise will join Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, and Ben Mendelsohn.

We're already getting Carol Danvers' origin in this movie, so it wouldn't be a stretch for someone else to get powers by the film's end, right?

Captain Marvel is a Marvel Cinematic Universe prequel of sorts, taking place in the 1990s. Rambeau was a cop who was exposed to extra-dimensional energy, which gave her the ability to manipulate her body into any kind of energy.

Not much is known about the main plot of "Captain Marvel", but the film will be directed by Anna Bodeck and Ryan Fleck, who is known for directing "It's Kind of a Funny Story" and "Half Nelson", respectively. It would also recognize the legacy and importance of Monica Rambeau, the first and only-until 2011-black woman to join the Avengers, and the only one to ever lead them.

Wise's character has the potential to pull a Falcon in Ant-Man and cameo all around the Marvel movie universe.

The Captain Marvel movie has been assembling quite a cast.

Marvel's first female centric superhero film has gained another cast member.

Captain Marvel has been said to start filming some time this month for its March 8, 2019 release.

There is no question this will be Wise's biggest role to date.
