Forecast: Lake effect comes to a brief end, more snow tonight

The snow warning covers northern Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, as well as southern Erie and western Wyoming counties.

- Minor/moderate accumulating snowfall expected for all Monday night - Tuesday.

A general snowfall moves in tonight and continues through Tuesday morning.

In addition to the snow, the coldest air of the season is forecast Tuesday in the Great Lakes from Chicago to Detroit.

It won't be best of morning commutes, but far from the worst.

The first system moved in Monday morning.

Much of today will turn out to be pretty quiet and just cold with more clouds than not.

Plan on PLENTY of extra drive time if you must drive, primarily over the high ground east of the City of Cleveland in order to reach your destination safely.

A stronger wave will plow through later Monday evening and early on Tuesday, with maybe an inch or so of snow in the southern counties.

Lakeshore counties are in a winter storm warning starting Monday at 10 p.m. Therefore we raised the high temperature for Tuesday a little bit to the upper 30s and introduced the chance of some rain or a wintry mix for some in the afternoon (especially areas along the Thruway and south). The National Weather Service has already issued a winter storm watch for parts of the region, with mentions of up to a foot of snow over northwestern Pennsylvania between Monday night and Wednesday afternoon.
