Status orange snow and ice warning for Kildare this weekend


If you thought last night was cold, you ain't seen nothing yet.


Further snow and ice expected overnight - and Met Eireann is warning paths and roads will again be treacherous overnight and tomorrow. It is valid from tonight, Saturday December 9 at 11pm to Sunday, December 10 at 11pm.

An earlier status yellow alert - warning of heavy rainfall in Limerick - has been updated by forecasters who are now warning of "rain, sleet and snow with snow accumulations of up to 4cm possible".

Gardaí have said that the majority of motorists have heeded their warning to stay off the roads during the current cold snap.

Met Eireann has issued a status orange snow and ice weather warning for Kildare this weekend. There has already been falls of snow in parts of the country with more forecast and motorists are asked to heed the changing conditions.

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Temperatures could plummet to as low as minus eight degrees across the west overnight as Met Eireann issues fresh weather warnings for the country.

They have also said to clear your windows before you start driving, and to clear all snow as if it is left on the roof it will become loose and can drop onto the windscreen during braking.

While most motorists in affected areas are dealing with icy roads, very snowy conditions were reported in Monaghan town, Carrickmacross and Castleblayney.
