Selena breaks down as she dedicates award to donor for life-saving transplant

In September, Gomez had a kidney transplant because of her battle with lupus. She is now trying to accept who she is, and that's taken her about five years, a few stints in rehab and a lot of therapy.

Gomez was presented with the woman of the year award by Raisa and Elle Fanning.

"She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me", the singer had earlier written in a heartfelt Instagram post.

"To be honest, I'm not sure how to answer - not because I'm trying to back away from it", she said in an interview with Billboard magazine.

Just before being honored as the Billboard's 2017 Woman of the Year, the 25-year-old responded to questions on the red carpet about how the Sorry singer has "influenced" who she is today.

After pausing for a moment to gather her thoughts, she continued: "I feel incredibly lucky".

"I don't know how I'll repay it, maybe I'll make an epic album for you guys and everyone else", she said in her speech teasing new music. When asked if blondes have more fun, Selena replied, "So far, it's been great I am not complaining!" I'm grateful for that.

"When people look up to me, I want them to see my life and have it reflect theirs and understand that if I can make it through everything that I've made it through and still making it through, you can do it as well".

"Specifically this year, I would like to thank my fantastic team and my family because they stuck with me through some really hard times", Gomez continued.
