The SCO was founded at a Summit in Shanghai in 2001 by the presidents of Russia, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
"We call upon SCO member states to use their leverage and contacts with armed Afghan militant groups to urge they enter into intra-Afghan talks", Tolo News quoted Abdullah as saying at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting in Russian Federation on Friday.
SCO objectives included building mutual trust, equality, respect for cultural diversity and good-neighbourly relations between member countries.

It merits mention here that the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) had contributed largely towards maintaining regional peace, security and stability.
