Luiz was a surprise omission from the Blues squad for the visit of Jose Mourinho's side, with Denmark worldwide Andreas Christensen named from the start of the 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.

And with youngster Andreas Christensen having been preferred by Conte in defence, questions over Luiz's Blues future have arisen, although the boss was quick to play down any such suggestions. When asked about his future, Conte said: "You talk about the future but every day you talk about mine".

Pressed by BBC about whether Luiz has a future at Chelsea, Conte added, "He has to work really hard, otherwise he is on the bench or in the stands".

"I wouldn't say they were exactly flamboyant past year but I don't think they're as dominant in games".

Christensen was clapped by his head coach again in the second half and was one of Chelsea's best performers as they kept only their second clean sheet in nine games.
