The NFL also posted about Timberlake's upcoming appearance: "Global superstar Justin Timberlake will headline the Pepsi Super Bowl LII Halftime Show on NBC at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, it was confirmed tonight". That appearance, however, was quickly eclipsed by the notorious episode three years later, in which he tore off co-star Janet Jackson's top, briefly revealing a bejeweled nipple.
Timberlake first performed at Super Bowl XXXVIII alongside Jessica Simpson, Janet Jackson, P. Diddy, Nelly, and Kid Rock.
The actor/singer made the announcement on Sunday, Oct. 22, via a hilarious video he made with Jimmy Fallon ahead of NBC's Sunday Night Football.More news: Two federal judges halt Trump's third travel ban
The silly exchange continues as the two bounce the question back and forth until Fallon eventually says to Timberlake, "You're doing the halftime show at the Super Bowl?" Timberlake joins other recent headliners Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars. The conversation did not take long to get to the "wardrobe thing", and Timberlake said, "That won't happen this time".
Timberlake apologized for the incident and said it was "not intentional and is regrettable".
So was Janet Jackson "banned" from the Superbowl? "I feel like that would be the ultimate accomplishment, and then the icing on the cake is at some point within that 12 minutes that everybody is shaking their booty". Timberlake performed at the 2001 Super Bowl with N'Sync, and he sang "Rock Your Body" with Jackson in 2004 in Houston. And I think that says something about society.
