Hours before Florida State and Alabama square off, the Gators will open against No. 11 MI (3:30 p.m., ABC) at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

No. 13 LSU is ranked in the preseason poll for the 17th consecutive season, which is the longest active streak among SEC teams.

The Associated Press began its college football poll on October 19, 1936, and it is now the longest-running poll of those that award national titles at the end of the season.

Since 2008, the year Georgia was the consensus preseason No. 1 team, the Bulldogs have finished lower than their preseason rank six out of nine years.

Oklahoma was the preseason pick to win the Big 12 Conference by the media and boasts five players on the 2017 Preseason All-Big 12 Team.

Florida enters the 2017 season outside the preseason Top 10 for the sixth time in seven seasons since former head coach Urban Meyer left after the 2010 season.

It's the third time that the Bedlam rivals will start the AP poll inside the top 10.

It's easy to say that the WVU football team is riding the high of last year's momentum.

That first game of the season against Virginia Tech, which happens to be ranked one ahead of the WVU football team at No. 21, will be a test right off the bat. OU's all-time average preseason AP rank is 6.7, best in the nation (Michigan is second at 7.4).

Alabama finished No. 2 in the final poll of the 2016 season after losing to Clemson. Alabama sits atop once more.

The Sooners, who are coming off a second straight Big 12 title and a Sugar Bowl victory, accumulated 1,170 points in the poll. The Irish will open up the 2017 season when they host Temple on September 2nd at 3:30pm at Notre Dame Stadium.
