Carpenter Homers, Cardinals Outlast Pirates 11-10


After building an 11-3 lead, the St. Louis Cardinals, almost blew it, but held for an 11-10 triumph over the Pirates on Friday night in Pittsburgh.

Mayers, 26, was recalled just prior to Friday night's game against the Pirates, and pitched 0.2 innings for the Cardinals in the victory.

This is the second time this season Wainwright has gone on the 10-day DL. He came off the 10-day disabled list on August 6 after recovering from back tightness.

With the Cardinals leading 2-1 and two outs in the second inning, Carpenter homered over the center field wall to extend the lead to 5-1.

Myers, 25, the Cardinals 3rd round draft pick out of the University of MS in 2013, will appear on the Cardinals Major League roster for the third time this season, also getting recalled on June 25 and July 26.

Pitching for Memphis, Mayers appeared in 25 games, making 15 starts, posting a 5-6 record with a 3.36 ERA and 88 strikeouts over 99.0 innings. Fowler went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, scored three runs and walked twice. Matt Bowman also struggled, allowing two runs in a third of an inning.
