Before they were famous: Netflix's Marvel's The Defenders

The drama will see all four of Netflix' Marvel series superheroes-Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist-team up to save New York City. The Punisher will be Marvel and Netflix's third show to be released this year following Iron Fist and The Defenders. So whatever creative form those seasons take, they'll be influenced by the fallout of The Defenders.

"It's just a city", Alexandra says dismissively of NY. Marvel and Netflix came up with a smart way to bring them together, but not everything about the series is ideal.

Now imagine a big-budget, adult-focused, animated Marvel series made exclusively for Netflix - it could be the best of all possible worlds, no? The Defenders is a slim eight episodes, with just enough time to establish a solid team, villain and tension-packed storyline. Daredevil (Cox) is the blind lawyer Matt Murdock, who has deadly martial-arts skills but a prickly personality. There's such a difference between the characters you used to see onscreen and the multifaceted women you see now.

In a way, the character is the linchpin that keeps the early episodes together as it cuts between the four superheroes' stories, which includes numerous secondary characters in the series such as Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing. For his part, Luke Cage hits the nail on the head when he sighs, during Iron Fist's self-exposition, "I don't know how much more of this I can take". Ritter's grumpy but almost invincible Jessica Jones is a favorite, and the actress is able to convey a lot with just a look. Any good business person would have tried to get them onboard at her company. She speaks in calm, measured and very confident tones of what The Hand will be doing and why no one can stop it.

Royal Dragon is largely without action, but I found it just as exciting to see them come together and interrogate one another. It all leads to The Defenders episodes which debuted on Netflix over the weekend and directly precede The Inhumans IMAX premiere on September 1.

It's going to seem like it's all over, because unlike a movie theater where you know to just stay planted in your seat, Netflix immediately shoves a whole bunch of other streaming options in your face! Fans have theorized that Alexandra might actually be Danny Rand's mother although the character allegedly died in Iron Fist.
