Samsung Galaxy S8 Active rugged smartphone announced in US on AT&T

Samsung on Monday officially announced the Galaxy S8 Active, a more rugged version of its flagship Galaxy S8 smartphone. And it's every bit as "built to take a beating" as last year's Galaxy S7 Active, and the Galaxy S6 Active from the year before.

'Our new Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is designed with tested durability and strength to address the needs of consumers who need a more rugged device for their lifestyle, ' said Tim Baxter, President and CEO, Samsung Electronics North America.

AT&T will have a limited time exclusivity on the rugged phone. The handset can also survive the same thirty-minute dunking in up to five feet of water that the existing Galaxy S8 and S8+ can endure. The phone can withstand exposure to high and low temperatures, salt, humidity, and shock, according to the company. There's also the possibility that Samsung will sell it unlocked directly. One area where the S8 Active improves on the S8 is an increase in battery size, going from 3,000 milliamp-hours to 4,000 milliamp-hours. You've got a 5.8-inch QHD Super AMOLED Display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, 4000mAh battery, 12MP f/1.7 Dual Pixel rear camera, 8MP f/1.7 front camera, Bixby, and an outer shell made of military-grade materials that is shatter, dust, and water resistant. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor clocked at 2.35GHz and comes coupled with Adreno 540 GPU. Meteor Gray and Titanium Gold are the color options available for the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active in the USA, exclusively available at AT&T NEXT for $28.34/month for 30 months.
