Native of UP, LeT financer held at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport


Firstpost reported that Khan is originally from Uttar Pradesh (UP) and was arrested "in a joint operation" by the anti-terror squads of UP and Maharashtra. He is now being interrogated in Mumbai, IANS reported.

Alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba operative Saleem Khan, from UP's Fatehpur district, who was caught soon after he landed at Mumbai airport from the UAE on Sunday night, was being brought to Lucknow by the UP ATS.

Intelligence agencies at Mumbai worldwide airport pulled him aside for questioning after a lookout notice was issued against Salim.

UP ADG (Law and Order), Anand Khan also confirmed the arrest.

Arun said, Kausar Farooqui and Mohammad Sharif, the two terrorists held in connection with Rampur CRPF camp attack, were trained along with Salim Khan at Muzaffarabad terror camp in Pakistan occupied Kashmir in 2007. Kumar said that Khan was deported from UAE, as his visa had expired. When Ali was arrested from Faizabad for spying on military installations, he had revealed during his interrogation that it was Salim who used to wire money to him. The investigation has found Saleem had sent money to Aftab thrice.

In Mumbai, the police said the UP ATS will seek Salims custody for questioning in the Rampur attack and alleged involvement in severeal other anti-national activities under their jurisdiction.

While being overseas, Salim had been in contact with Aftab and gave instructions to him about terror activities and funding, the official in Mumbai said. A team of sleuths from UP were camping in Mumbai and along with Maharashtra police were trying to gather details of members of sleeper cells involved in unlawful activities who receive funds from Pakistan.
