FLIGHTS between Jersey and Gatwick were disrupted on Monday after the runway at the London hub was twice closed when a departing plane burst a tyre.
A runway inspection was ordered after a Air Canada flight was forced to return to the airport following the incident.
"The current runway closure follows an earlier closure between 1.16pm and 1.45pm when the runway was closed for an inspection after this aircraft departed".
The airport then used its back-up runway.More news: You can now tip your Uber driver in Pittsburgh
The Air Canada flight returned back to Gatwick where passengers were then disembarked.
Flights both to and from Gatwick are expected to suffer delays, cancellations and diversions for the rest of the day. Passengers should check with their airline before travelling to the airport for information about their specific flight.
"As per standard operation procedures and as a precautionary measure the crew requested emergency services presence after a tyre blew upon take-off".
The airline said it was doing its utmost to allow passengers to get to the destination as quickly as possible.
