Big 12's Bob Bowlsby expects to sign extension through 2025

Bob Bowlsby spent much of his state of the Big 12 address Monday trumpeting why he is optimistic that the return of a conference title game may yield better representation for the league in the College Football Playoff.

With both the SEC and ACC finishing up their preseason introductions to the upcoming season, Monday marked Day 1 of the Big 12 Media Days.

"It gets a little tiresome because I know we play at a very high level, and I know that top to bottom we're the best in the country in terms of balance", Bowlsby said.

"Our perception is somewhat a product of not being in the playoffs two of the three years", Bowlsby said.

Of course, the new game will be a rematch from the regular season, but Bowlsby says he's OK with that.

After finding itself on the outside looking in for two of the first three College Football Playoffs, the Big 12 Conference was in a unique situation as the lone Power 5 conference without a championship game to determine who was the best in the league each year.

The league distributed an average of $34 million per school for the 2016-17 school year, a record amount and 15 percent increase over the previous year. "The method we conduct our championship and regular season is the most hard because you never miss anybody". Gary Patterson, the TCU coach, suggested that the committee sends mixed messages. For the first time since Oklahoma toppled Nebraska to win the 2010 Big XII, the conference is set to send two teams to a 13th game and the conference favorite is used to the spotlight.

"I'm not sure that a signing date is exactly what we need in today's environment", he said.

"Our best teams, on the last chance, the last week of the season get to make their case or whatever for the playoff are going to be playing each other on a big stage", Riley said.

"I think it's a perception, not a reality", Bowlsby said.

"I feel like I'm a pretty young 65", Bowlsby told the Kansas City Star. "I like what I'm doing".

Those could be formidable challenges, especially with none of those Big 12 teams playing those games at home.
