"An operation to wipe out terrorists has been launched in Rajgal Valley in Khyber Agency", the director general of Pakistan Army's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), told reporters on Sunday.
"There is no organized infrastructure of Daesh in Pakistan, but the group is getting stronger in Afghanistan and the objective behind the operation is to check growing influence of Daesh on the Afghan side of the border", General Ghafoor further said. Referring to the recent visit of US Senators representing Defence Committee, he said that they were taken to the areas where the state had regained her writ by eliminating terror and they had expressed appreciations of the role of Pakistan's military. The Indian troops in line to defuse their own frustrations had been targeting the civil population along the LOC which ultimately caused a high number of causalities of the civil population, settled along the LOC.
Pakistan's military began building a fence along the 2,611-kilometre border with Afghanistan in May as part of its security programme.
"There will never be any foreign boots on our ground", said Maj Gen Ghafoor when talking about collaborative efforts against terrorism on the Pak-Afghan border.
Till date, he said over 46 major operations and 9,000 Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) had been carried out since the launch of operation RUF across the country.
There has been a decreasing trend in sectarian attacks, the DG ISPR said. We fire towards bunkers where we think the firing is coming from.
"As Rajgal valley is located in rugged mountains, the operation will be hard, but we are confident that the security forces will succeed to clear the area", the military spokesman said.More news: Public Barred from Whittier Fire Area
To a question, he said the Army Chief will take a final decision on the appeal of Indian spy Kulbhushan Jhadav at the earliest.
"International border with Afghanistan will be fully secured to check infiltration of terrorists and to destroy their hideouts on our side of the border", he went on to say.
Terming the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as "very critical for the progress of Pakistan", the DG ISPR said the armed forces would "give it complete security and will not let it fail at any cost".
"It is the duty of every Pakistani to ensure the supremacy of the law and Constitution", he said in answer to another question.
The ISI was not the only institute involved in the Raymond Davis affair, he said when asked to comment on the Central Intelligence Agency contractor's book wherein he states former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Shuja Pasha orchestrated his release from jail.
Giving details about the performance of the Military Courts, he said total 274 terrorists were tried and of them 161 were awarded death penalty. "For this, army shall continue to perform its role in and with support of all other state institutions".
Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, in response to queries about speculation regarding the army's involvement in the Supreme Court-sanctioned joint investigation team (JIT) probing the Sharif family's wealth in the Panamagate case, said there is "no direct army involvement".
