HTC U11 users can now install Amazon's Alexa assistant

It's a more convenient way to launch the assistant if the phone is already in your hand and you don't want to say "Alexa" a bunch of times in public.

To use the call feature with an Amazon Echo, you'll need to verify your mobile number via SMS - this feature can use phone data but doesn't use text messages and minutes from your contract. Just like Google Home, Alexa-enabled devices are also created to work with smart home functionality. Even more surprising: 58% of 18- to 25-year-old consumers prefer to shop in a traditional store, compared with less than half of 26- to 45-year-old shoppers.

The CS Monitor report goes on to talk about the speaker quality of the two smart-home speakers. Though Huawei revealed its support for Amazon Alexa on the Mate 9 during the ending of March, still that requires that one launching the Huawei Alexa app in other to commence the voice assistant. Further, the Alexa can also be triggered by the company's proprietary "HTC Edge Sense" technology where users just have to squeeze the side of the phone.

It has been a great success, which is really isn't surprising as people will always be out for great deals, as well as it's held by Amazon also. It can also provide you with shopping alternatives.

Otherwise, in the apps current state as of the date of this post, its hard to recommend a current Amazon Echo owner to enable this feature given that Google Assistant performs most if not all the same voice commands with a more polished and consistent experience. More importantly, it can not really utilize the strengths of a smartphone, unlike other voice assistants. It doesn't even have shopping-related features like Amazon Echo. With Alexa, you cannot access services such as Spotify or Pandora, like you can do on the Echo.

Today's release of the new HTC Alexa app for the HTC U11 owners will become the first set of people to use the hands-free Amazon Alexa support on their smartphone which is being provided by HTC. It'd be a lot more useful if Alexa displayed information, such as the weather or my calendar appointments, on the U11's very nice screen, instead of pretending it doesn't exist. All of the Alexa interactions are audio-based: you say a command and Alexa's generic female voice will respond. It might be tempting to downplay the significance of the rise of virtual assistants, but for Amazon this was serious business.
