Emily Blunt Debuts New 'Mary Poppins Returns' Content at D23!


The footage was a rough teaser of shots and title cards and largely dialogue-free, as the film only finished filming a few weeks ago.

And yet there was no trailer, just a rough cut of scenes and still images, accompanied by the Disney orchestra performing live, playing music from the new film's soundtrack. Following a family tragedy, Michael's three children - Annabel, Georgie, and John - are left joyless and in need of a spoonful of sugar. They're teetering on a crisis thanks to the ruthless manager of Fidelity Fiduciary, William Weatherall Wilkin (Colin Firth).

The story takes place 20 years after the original and also stars Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack the lamplighter, Meryl Streep as Mary's unusual cousin Topsy, and Angela Lansbury as the Balloon Lady, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Lin Manuel Miranda, who won the Pulitzer Prize for creating and starring in Broadway's historical, hip-hop musical Hamilton, will play a new character named Jack, a street lamplighter. When they look up in the sky and the clouds part, they are stunned at the sight of Mary Poppins, umbrella in hand, hovering overhead.

"I wanted to pay homage to Julie and then carve out my own niche and do my own version of her".

We've been given out first sneak peak at the sequal to the 1964 Disney classic Mary Poppins which stars Emily Blunt in the lead role. Here's some of what Emily Blunt had to say during the panel. A single photo of Blunt in character was released (and went viral) earlier this year, giving us our first look at the reboot, which takes place 25 years after the original.
