North Korea's multiple missile tests in recent months, culminating with its first-ever successful launch last week of an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching Alaska, has alarmed the worldwide community and presented Trump's first major foreign policy test.
The North's foreign ministry said in a statement carried by the official KCNA news agency that the ICBM test was an exercise of its legitimate right to self-defense against nuclear threat from the United States.
"It would be a fatal mistake to think that as a nuclear power the DPRK, which possesses an ICBM, will tolerate the reckless sanctions blackmail of the United States and other hostile forces", according to the report.
In response to the launch, our ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, called for an emergency meeting of the Security Council whose permanent members include China and Russian Federation, either of whom could veto any action we proposed.
"About one-third of North Koreans are naïve and believe that North Korea can defeat the US with its nuclear and missile programs", he said.
Two-way trade between China and North Korea rose 10.5 percent to $2.55 billion in the first half of 2017, according to data released by the Chinese government on Thursday.
China says it has to act with caution because they don't want a flood of refugees across its shared border.

Senior US officials say that a new round of sanctions related to North Korea is imminent.
The report, based on thermal images from September through June, comes amid rising tensions over North Korea's disputed nuclear program.
