Marathon men Kubot and Melo win Wimbledon doubles crown


Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo beat Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic 5-7 7-5 7-6 (7-2) 3-6 13-11 to win the Wimbledon men's doubles title.

The men's final was the first match on Centre Court following the women's singles championship Saturday.

Following the men's doubles title match that ran for a gruelling four hours and 40 minutes, it was quickfire fare in the last final of the day.

Taiwanese tennis player Chan Hao-ching (詹皓晴) and her teammate Monica Niculescu lost to Olympic Champions Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina at Wimbledon ladies' doubles final, 6-0, 6-0.

They also won their 10th doubles title together, the second one this year after 2017 Dubai, and it is definitely one of the most important ones.

"We knew if we give them a little chance, the momentum can change".

"After the first set, I looked at the clock".

The result was the first "double bagel" in the women's doubles final since 1953, when Shirley Fry and Doris Hart beat Maureen Connolly and Julia Sampson 6-0, 6-0.

It was a dominant women's doubles final at Wimbledon.

The second-seeded duo have now won three Grand Slam events in doubles following their wins at the 2013 French Open and 2014 US Open.
