Disney Officially Casts Live-Action Aladdin, Jasmine & Genie

According to Disney, which announced the casting at the D23 Expo, Massoud will join Naomi Scott as Jasmine and Will Smith as Genie.

Will Smith was first reported by THR last week, but has now been confirmed.

Actress Naomi Scott, recently seen in as the Pink Ranger in the Power Rangers reboot, will portray Princess Jasmine. And his name is Mena Massoud. Canadian Mena Massoud has been tapped as our live action Aladdin. The actor sang the hit song "Friend Like Me", which fans are hoping that Will Smith will now take over along with the role.

The original Disney classic was the highest grossing film of the year in 1992, and won Academy Awards for best score and best song for A Whole New World. The role was made famous by the late Robin Williams who voiced the hilarious character.

With so many rumors flying around the web in regards to who Disney should cast for such coveted roles, it left us to wonder-just who would Disney choose?

'There have been conversations and, although nothing is set in stone and things are subject to change, he's certainly one of Guy's favoured choices. Dan Lin, who worked with Ritchie in the two Sherlock Holmes movies, is producing Aladdin.

The live-action Aladdin was originally expected to begin a six-month shoot in July, however, casting delays appear to have altered the schedule.
