The Cincinnati native was recently chosen as one of three players to represent Kentucky at the annual SEC Media Days in Hoover, Ala. Jones had two games with multiple pass breakups, including a pair at IN, a game he also had a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown. Thorpe was a running back, passer, kicker, and defensive back. In addition to his legendary performance on the football field, Thorpe played professional baseball and won Olympic gold medals in the decathlon and pentathlon.

Blanding has previously been named this summer to the 2017 Bednarik Award, Nagurski and Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List.

Last year's victor was Adoree Jackson of USC who was considered one of the top athletes in college football and he was selected 18th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Titans.

Who are some of the top names on this list this season? The Jim Thorpe Award Banquet will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in Oklahoma. Founded in 1997, the NCFAA and its 23 awards now boast over over 800 recipients, dating to 1935.
