Timberwolves take Markkanen with No. 7 pick for Bulls

Jimmy Butler was dealt from the Bulls to the Timberwolves during the NBA Draft on Thursday night - when he was vacationing in Paris. And the Bulls do have Nikola Mirotic with the upcoming extension, and the Bulls aren't sure how much they want to commit to him. In the end, success or failure is measured by the ability of this team to go from this point and quickly position itself as not just a playoff contender in the East, but a team with the foundation to win a championship.

"They chose the route that they chose". I'm not mad, I'm not.

"I've been playing a lot of different ways", Markkanen said. But it's OK. I've already moved past it. "And I will do that in a Timberwolves uniform". He looks back on his time with the Bulls fondly. Butler said that being the face of the Bulls organization now isn't as good as he thought it would be. But I know I owe so much to the person I am now, and to the player that I've become, to you.

Butler didn't want to get into that, only saying, "I gave all to that city and to that team". I have no bad things to say about Fred at all. "It's going to be great, man, a guy that wins".

The first things they should do is immediately cut ties with Brandon Rush, Omri Casspi and Adreian Payne. "I don't have any complaints".

Markkanen, who played only one year in Tucson, was expected to be a top-10 pick after his record-breaking season.

No rookie will average that in his first season.

The coach that Butler was only concerned about pleasing these days? "I can honestly say that I have always been incredibly motivated to succeed". He was his advocate. While that seems like a reasonable price for Minnesota, Lowe notes that Chicago asked for more from other teams (like Eric Bledsoe and the No. 4 pick from the Phoenix Suns), but nothing ever came of it. Who knows? Only they do. "Every year he just made major strides".

Coincidentally, Dunn was the Bulls' draft target last June when they had serious talks with the Celtics centered on Butler. Chicago also drafted OR center Jordan Bell in the second round with the No. 38 pick and sent him to Golden State for cash.

"Over time, you're building relationships", Thibodeau said. "But it's necessary. This is something we felt we had to do at this time".

But their first round pick of next year functionally has five seasons of cost control left, because it will be five seasons before they have to pay that player. "We all feel the same way".

"I don't know if it's easy". You always pushed me to never give anything less than my absolute best night in, night out.

What did you think of the Minnesota Timberwolves' draft? I mentioned this yesterday about Kris being here, and the work he's already put in this summer.

Thibodeau echoed executive vice president John Paxson's words from late Thursday that negotiations between the two parties were cordial and professional.

Thibodeau coached Butler from 2011 to 2015 before being fired. It will likely be a long time before the Bulls are competitive again, but starting over is the right move to make.

"We understand what this means", Paxson said. Coming into the week, he was considered the face of the Bulls.

While Butler may be happy about a change of scenery and reunion with former Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau, the trade may have an huge impact on his future earnings.

"That's his Tweet. I don't control his Twitter. It's not right. It's unprofessional, and he shouldn't have done it", he said. "Don't call my phone". And I'm not going to try to control it.

Personally, I don't care for it too much, but I'm not a great National Basketball Association mind. I just told him, 'Hey, you did that.
