"It testified to me that I'm just as good as anybody in this draft class", Jackson said. "But for the most part, he just wants to be there and to know that he cares for me".
Jackson will be unable to play in the Summer League because of the foot surgery, but Demps said he expects him to be ready for the start of training camp.
"I feel that way 100 per cent", Jackson said. "It's been a lifelong dream and goal of mine and I saw it front of my eyes and I wanted to go and take it".
The Pelicans drafted Oklahoma sharpshooter and 2016 Naismith Player of the Year, Buddy Hield, with the sixth overall pick last year, but quickly shipped him over to Sacramento in the Cousins deal. "I work my tail off for everything I've ever gotten".
