President Trump on Comey tapes - "My story didn't change"

Unless US President Donald Trump decides that he has had enough, and returns to his gilded Manhattan tower, his presidency's metastasizing crisis will continue to haunt him.

Lawmakers investigating allegations of Russian meddling in the United States 2016 election had asked the White House for any such recordings of Comey, whom Trump fired on May 9.

Trump fired Comey, who as FBI director was leading the bureau's Russian Federation investigation, on May 9.

23 de junio de 2017, 16:23Washington, June 23 (Prensa Latina) Twice as many USA citizens say they are more likely to believe former FBI Director James Comey than President Donald Trump, according to a new poll.

Allegations of ties to Russian Federation have cast a shadow over Trump's first five months in office, distracting from attempts by his fellow Republicans in Congress to overhaul the USA healthcare and tax systems.

This morning, Fox News aired a new interview with Trump, asking about his bogus tweet, and after whining about the Obama administration for a while, the president argued that he was simply trying to intimidate the former FBI chief in advance of his sworn testimony in the investigation into Trump's Russian Federation scandal.

By speaking of "tapes", the President cavalierly evoked the Watergate scandal and the worst political crisis in the history of the presidency in order to hint that he, like Nixon, was capable of secretly recording his visitors.

In other comments in the full interview on Fox, which aired Friday morning, Trump reiterated how ineffective Democrats and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi have been at winning elections.

May 16 appears to be his first time Wittes previewed Comey stories.

Dershowitz said, however, that he's not sure Trump's tweet was a good idea because it led Comey to leak his memos and it prompted Mueller to be appointed as special counsel.

More recently, a Trump confidante told an interviewer that Trump was considering firing Mueller as well.

Trump has also repeatedly claimed that millions of illegal immigrants voted in the last election, with no proof.

Speculations were provoked when Trump sacked Comey, leading to controversies.

"So you'll have to do a little investigative reporting to determine that". "Lordy, I hope there are tapes", Comey said of the possibility of being recorded. The foreign surveillance was eventually passed on to American spies, who acceded to demands from the West Wing of the Obama White House and handed over transcripts of conversations and names of participants.

Earlier, Mr Trump hosted the press in the East Room of the White House for a signing ceremony to mark the signing of a new bill to reform the Department of Veteran Affairs, including allowing the department to dismiss employees.

After the tweet, Mr Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee to make his account of interactions with the President public.

Trump flirted with presidential runs in 1988 and 2000 before abandoning them. "He was - he did admit that what I said was right".

Still, the president believes his initial May 12 tweet was not ill-advised. So you never know what's out there, and I didn't tape and I don't have any tape and I didn't tape.

His tweet came a day before he was required by Congress to hand over any such tapes. Was he trying to intimidate or silence James Comey?
