All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society's signature fundraiser that has taken place in Catonsville for more than 15 years, returns Saturday.

Years ago Relay For Life events in Greene County were held at Harmon Park in Paragould.

Becker said her family has been affected by cancer, which is why she wanted to be a part of the student committee this year. "There will be food and fun to bring the community together to remember and honor our loved ones that have fought the battle against cancer".

Cancer survivors and caregivers walk the "survivor lap" Friday evening at Community Field at Carson City-Crystal High School during Carson City's inaugural Relay for Life.

"We chose to jump the goal because we are merging two events", Kolwelter said. But it also had more teams and participants those years.

"Anybody is welcome to come".

Even if you aren't on one of the dozens of teams, even if you aren't a volunteer, even if you aren't a cancer survivor yourself - drop by anyway. "You can just walk the track to be there", Haynes said.

This year, the National Screening Service will be available at the Relay to arrange appointments for that service, which is a bonus for those attending.

"When they walk, they have a objective". "People have to figure out what they will support", Rigsby said.

Wilton Relay for Life has raised $54,782.07 so far and 324 people have been involved online. This year's theme is Red, White, and Blue for a Cure! "This year, we're asking teams to put cans in their bags". Each walker pledges to raise $2,620.

Ryan noted that even as Relay for Life tries to accommodate the community by changing dates, times and locations to get the community out to help raise awareness and money, it seems like more roadblocks ensue.

McCarthy says anyone can be part of the relay. "We encourage the community to come up and show their support, even if they only want to walk one lap".

For information contact McCarthy at 508-897-4323 or kate.mccarthy@cancer.org. Luminaria will be lit Friday night at 9 p.m., with a reading of names afterward. Competitors don't have to be on a Relay team to participate, according to games and activities coordinator Paula Rose.

In its previous 14 years, Finamore said the North Shore Relay for Life has raised about $560,000. Since 2010, the relay has raised $560,000.

"It's really cool because it's going toward something really important and close to heart for a lot of people on the team", said Julia Leroy of Chatham Chicks Crush Cancer. "We will donate the cans to the Arnold Food Pantry after the event".
