Minnesota beats Iowa 9-3, earns rematch with Hawkeyes

The Terps await their NCAA tournament fate today.

For Iowa, the title is its first in baseball since the Hawks won the Big Ten regular-season championship in 1990. All are expecting to hear their names when the field is announced Monday at noon. Iowa will begin NCAA Tournament play at an undetermined location from Friday through Sunday of this week.

Nebraska and IN were sent packing after elimination losses Friday, with IN collapsing against Minnesota and Nebraska failing to complete a comeback against Maryland. The Gophers had forced the showdown by pounding 16 hits in a 9-3 victory over the Hawkeyes earlier in the day.

Because that game ran so long, the deciding game between Maryland and Northwestern was pushed to Sunday morning. The Wildcats were 22-13 over their last 35 games after a 5-17 start.
