New population estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau showed that Conroe, a northern Houston suburb, was the fastest-growing of the 15 with a 7.8 percent increase from 2015 to 2016.
Aroostook County lost the most residents, with a drop of 1.1 percent from 2015.
Despite losing 8,638 residents (-0.3%), Chicago remains the third largest city with a population of 2.7 million.
There were 703,047 people living in Lake County as of July 1, 2016, down from 703,413 a year earlier, according to the estimates released earlier this year. Dallas was up 1.58 percent to 1,317,929.
The state's fastest-growing communities since 2010 are suburban townships in urban counties.
"The trend is continuing as majority black communities have lost population", Loury said.
Nassau County towns overall are growing while many in Suffolk County are declining in population, according to the latest estimates by the United States Census Bureau.

Estimates do have a margin of error, sometimes as high as a few hundred people. "I think that the area over here can support a lot more growth".
Similarly, the state lost more residents in 2016 than any other in the US for the third consecutive year.
Communities that saw the biggest declines since 2010 were in northern MI.
"We have great property values, and we have homes ranging from your starter homes from the mid-$150,000s to nearly a million", Morris said.
Change in population from the 2010 Census ranged from a decrease of 5.86 percent in the town of Springwater to the village of Leicester's 3.63 percent gain. Over the next five years, the city will begin expanding into its new urban growth boundary, building out and sometimes up to accommodate Bend's rapid growth.
The numbers serve as another measure of the different levels of opportunity and quality of life across the county. That brought its growth in the decade to 13,553 new residents, and its total population above 105,000.
Some folks have other concerns about the growing population.
"Recent census statistics demonstrate a true renaissance for the city of Birmingham, the likes of which have never been seen in the city's recent history", the mayor's office said in a statement.
