Celtics power past Wizards in Game 7, 115-105

The Cavaliers will play the Celtics Wednesday night in the Eastern Conference finals in Boston.

Thanks to a big night from oafish backup center guy Kelly Olynyk, the Boston Celtics took Game 7 from the Washington Wizards tonight, 115-105, and won the honor of trying to stop LeBron James and the Cavs.

The defending National Basketball Association champions, who haven't played since completing a sweep of Toronto on May 7, will take on Boston following the Celtics win over the Wizards Monday night in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

"But what a special opportunity to get a chance to compete against them". Boston also connected on 11 three-pointers, including eight of 13 in the second half.

"A friend called me and said "Be at your best when your best is needed" and my best was needed tonight", Olynyk said after the win. Having to win a series clincher here, where the Celtics are now 19-4 all time in home Game 7s, was a predicament they could have avoided if they didn't leave so much on the court so often.

Washington's Ian Mahinmi, who was part of the 2014 Indiana Pacers' team that eliminated Washington in the East semifinals, said both Wall and Bradley Beal have matured a lot since then. We just lost our composure, and they picked us apart.

Despite the Wizards having a 46-31 edge in rebounding, they were battered in the paint as they were outscored 58-40 by the smaller team that was more physical.

Bradley Beal gave a heroic effort in Game Seven, scoring 38 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the field and 5-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc.

A pair of three-pointers to the third quarter broke open a tied scored to give Boston an 85-79 lead.

Washington did respond to Boston's run with a 7-0 run to climb back into it, but they were never able to get over the hump.

Green also addressed the fairly widespread perception that he is a dirty player, and said there's a difference between guys like him and Olynyk. Boston carried their positive momentum into the fourth quarter, where Olynyk took over. "Nobody ever has - but doing our best to leave everything we have out there on the floor", Celtics coach Brad Stevens said.

They were a lethal pair when they were working together to run Washington's offense.

Isaiah Thomas led the Celtics with 29 points, while Kelly Olynyk stepped up off the bench to added in 26. Boston began the game on a big run and it seemed for a bit that these horrid playoffs would turn out another clunker in what was supposed to be a great game.

The 2017 NBA Eastern Conference Finals matchup is set.

The Celtics had the largest lead of the first half at 10-2, but that gap was quickly erased by Washington as Boston started to accumulate fouls.

Olynyk's highlight basket of the night came during the first quarter, when he faked a dribble-hand-off to Thomas on the right wing and turned the corner for a drive to the rack that eventually turned into a three-point play. Beal nearly singlehandedly kept the Wizards afloat late in the second half, hitting big shot after big shot.

Boston's fans agreed with that sentiment, even though they may not have predicted such a tale coming true during Game 7.

Only Eddie Johnson (34 points for the Seattle SuperSonics against the Suns in 1993) and Sedale Threatt (28 points for the 76ers against the Bucks in 1986) scored more off the bench in a Game 7 in this era.
