Reema Lagoo, who played mother to top Bollywood actors, dies

With her demise, Bollywood lost an actress who "radiated talent, beauty and such warmth", as Madhurii Dixit Nene remembers her. Reema Lagoo is no more and the Indian film industry is poorer for it.

Bollywood celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar paid emotional tributes to veteran movie and theatre actress Reema Lagoo, who died here early on Thursday following a cardiac arrest. She complained of chest pain on Wednesday and was rushed to the hospital where she breathed her last.

The actress was married to Marathi actor Vivek Lagoo and the couple had a daughter Mrunmayee Lagoo. She featured in other popular television shows like Tu Tu Main Main and Shriman Shrimati.Reema Lagoo's funeral was held in the evening. She also appeared in many TV serials.

The actress who was now playing the role of Dayavanti Mehta in the daily soap "Naamkarann" produced by Mahesh Bhatt had stunned her fans with her baddie avatar.

The actor's body is in Kokilaben hospital now and will be taken to her residence after 10 am.

Madhur Bhandarkar: "Sad to hear about Reema Lagoo". Her mother was actress Mandakini Bhadbhade whose role in drama Lekure udand Jaahalee on the Marathi stage was praised by the audience.

Her big break came in 1988 when she played the mother of the leading actress in the romantic hit Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Her last screen appearance was in the Marathi film Katyar Kaljat Ghusali. The mother in Hum Sath Sath Hain, Kal Ho Na Ho and many more roles are still fresh in memory.

Lagoo was famous for playing mother characters in Hindi movies.

"Your tenacity, your sense of humour, your love for life, your enthusiasm for acting" will always be an inspiration, Viraf wrote.
