Possible Play-Off For Champions League Spot For Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal

Liverpool need the Champions League next season to lure in better players and take them to the next level. This means that nearly everyone still has something to play for.

How would a Champions League play-off come about? The only way Arsenal realistically finishes fourth is with a Liverpool draw and a win against Everton. A 2-0 defeat mixed with a 1-1 draw at the Emirates would mean both teams have the exact same goal difference (including goals scored and conceded).

The prize for winning the league is £38m, but even bottom club Sunderland will still be paid nearly £2m just for taking part.

Asked if he and the players were affected by the large number of stay-away fans, Wenger said he wasn't surprised by the low attendance.

Jurgen Klopp says Bayern would not find things as easy as they do in the Bundesliga if they were a Premier League club. "Five points separate Southampton in eighth, which is worth £24.7m in prize money, and Watford in 16th, worth £9.5m".

"This will be our biggest game of the season", he added.

Liverpool ran out comfortable winners at the London Stadium on Sunday and know victory at home to Middlesbrough in their final game next Sunday will guarantee a top-four finish. Chelsea, crowned champions last week, finished 10th a year ago.

The Chilean worldwide came through again nine minutes later with a decisive header to assure Arsenal of a 2-0 victory.

This year Arsenal must again rely on an upset to finish in the top four.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal are now battling for third and fourth places. But we need to make sure we win our game.

The champions (Chelsea) and relegated teams (Hull, Sunderland and Middlesbrough) were already decided, but Alexis Sanchez sank Sunderland to keep Arsenal in the hunt for Champions League qualification, while Manchester City all but secured a top-four place by beating West Bromwich Albion.

Arsenal would be involved in a winner-take-all match at Villa Park for the fourth and final Champions League spot if a freakish set of results occur on the last day of the season on Sunday.

Liverpool will be assured of a top-four spot if they equal or better Arsenal's result this weekend's set of fixtures.
