Conor McGregor Applies For Boxing License, Confirms NSAC Head

Conor McGregor, the UFC Lightweight Champion has singed a bout agreement to participate in a boxing match with superstar Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor said in the caption of his post, "Let's go get some boxing ones now son".

However, Mayweather was in no mood to discuss his Irish counterpart and quickly shot down the question.

The deal was brokered by Sam Jones, who is the boyfriend of her GB team-mate Sandy Ryan, but Marshall, who will be based in Las Vegas, says she was incredulous at first. "Both of these fighters deserve respect".

McGregor a year ago obtained a boxing licence granted by the California State Athletic Commission, which would allow him to box in the USA state, as part of his pursuit of a cross-sport showdown with Mayweather. "He is under contract to the UFC, and if he wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match, he can't because his bosses wouldn't allow that to happen".

Bennett did however describe McGregor as a former "All-Ireland champion boxer", which is incorrect.

"The first and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on", Deadspin editor Tim Marchman said in a statement to Deadspin.

"It is an honor to sign this record-breaking deal alongside my partners Zuffa LLC, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and Paradigm Sports Management", McGregor said. Congratulations to all parties involved. "It's a dream come true and I can't wait to get started".

With McGregor and the UFC taking these recent steps, the ball most certainly seems to be in the court of the man dubbed "Money".

"If we can come to a deal with (Al) Haymon (Mayweather's adviser) and Mayweather, the fight's going to happen".

Now it's up to Mayweather, who hasn't set foot in the ring since September 2015.
