2 women dead in crash on Route 44 in Plymouth


Murphy was declared dead at the scene. A 14-month-old boy suffered critical injuries and was flown to hospital.

A man identified as Robert Skidmore, 66, was extricated from the Mercedes after being trapped and airlifted to Shock Trauma, where he later died. You can hear them below.

A third auto was also involved in the crash and was driven by Anthony Stanley, 59, of Bowie, Md. His vehicle sustained minor damage.

A 2016 Nissan 350-Z was also struck in the crash, though the driver was uninjured, police said. It was also not known where Murphy had initially gotten on Route 50, police said. The Jeep traveled across the eastbound lanes, through the grass median, and entered the westbound side of the highway before rolling over and coming to rest on a ramp.

Maryland State Police say a woman who was driving the wrong way on a major thoroughfare in the state capital was killed in a head-on collision. EMS providers on the scene requested a GO-TEAM response.

Maryland State Police are taking phone calls from any witnesses or friends and family who may have any relevant information. MDOT State Highway Administration personnel assisted on the scene with lane closures and detours. Murphy was driving a black 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan.

Another vehicle was involved in the crash, but that driver was not injured, police said.

Those unfamiliar with the stop or become distracted could continue down the road and back onto Route 50 westbound into eastbound traffic.

Investigators are using 911 calls in an effort to piece together what happened before Wednesday's fatal crash on Route 50 in Anne Arundel County.
