This June, Netflix will debut its newest series GLOW-the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, which follows a small wrestling federation made up entirely of women.
There's glitter, there's big hair, there are sassy women wrestlers, what's not to love?
The show is executive produced by Orange Is The New Black creator Jenji Kohan and stars Alison Brie.More news: United Nations mulls further sanctions against North Korea
And indeed, the trailer positions GLOW as an empowering, nearly feminist gig for actresses normally left playing secretaries and wives (though we'll reserve judgement until we see if the "Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling" get to be more than just gorgeous). Netflix's new original series aims to capture all of that wildness while telling new behind-the-scenes stories about the formation of the league and the stories of the women involved. The 12 wrestlers who make the cut are refreshingly diverse, though this isn't a surprise, considering the team responsible for Orange Is the New Black is also behind GLOW.
Marc Maron, Ellen Wong, Britt baron, Kimmy Gatewood, Betty Gilpin, Rebekka Johnson and Sunita Mani also star in the series. And with Marc Maron, Betty Gilpin, Kate Nash and Chris Lowell at the cast, we can say that there is a lot of people in GLOW. GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) was a real life wrestling promotion which ran from 1986 to 1990.
