Vinyl music gives record stores a boost in a digital world

"Saturday, April 22nd marks the 10th Anniversary of Record Store Day, our now annual hootenanny dedicated to record culture, record lovers, record makers and most of all, the incredible record stores that make it all possible", organizers said in a news release.

The stuff that I have seen a lot this year is the trick cut.

This year, special Record Store Day releases include the David Bowie titles "Cracked Actor" and "BOWPROMO", as well as records with previously unreleased music from Prince, Sharon Jones and Leon Russell, according to the news release. This year's event in Niagara coincides with the demise of the region's last chain music store, HMV at the Pen Centre, though the return of Sunrise Records will soon occupy the space.

Record Store Day is characterized by special sales and offers and the unique RSD releases which are only available in participating stores on that particular day. There will be coffee and doughnuts for early birds and a food truck (Flossie Mae Soul Food) for lunch. Some cities, including Midwest cities like Lansing, may not get certain releases.

My first suggestion is the 12 inch vinyl release of the group Animal Collective's "Meeting of the Water".

Look, I know that streaming music is all the rage these days.

That now, the emotional experience of buying and owning a piece of art is more important than it ever was.

RSD will see more than 200 independent United Kingdom record stores celebrate their uniqueness. That's right; Goner's dropping a new, used-to-be-secret NOTS record this Saturday.

John's star was rapidly rising at the time he entered New York's famed A&R Studio for radio station WABC-FM broadcast on November 17, 1970, with bassist Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson. A smorgasbord of spring releases by groups with Memphis roots is bolstering the RSD exclusives. "[It] has our friend Julien Baker on there".

"That made me realise we were onto something".
