Two Seattle officers shot, wounded


The other officer was shot in the chin and in the rib cage. A third officer was grazed by a bullet and a fourth officer was hit in the head. All suspects are now in custody.

The shooting occurred near Madison Street and Western Avenue, just blocks away from the downtown waterfront, the Seattle Police Department announced on Twitter. Several officers were shot while responding to a robbery in Saattle.

The shooting happened in downtown Seattle at about 1:32 p.m. Thursday.

Sgt. Sean Whitcomb, a department spokesman, confirmed that the suspect had died but did not immediately have further details. "All suspects in custody". The three robbery suspects fled, but when police tried to stop them a block away, the officers and suspects began fighting.

Shortly after the shooting, police reported that one suspect was detained nearby while a second suspect had been found with "significant injuries". The third person is no longer a suspect. The officers, a man and a woman, were taken to Harborview Medical Center as police scoured the area for suspects.

Chief Kathleen O'Toole told reporters at first that the injuries to the officers were believed to be minor, but hospital officials later said one of the officers is in critical condition.

Officers chased two suspects, a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, who ran from the store, police said. Initially he was described as having life threatening injuries, but his condition has improved.

Minutes after news broke that two Seattle police officers were shot during a robbery call in downtown Seattle, law enforcement and emergency agencies from around the Puget Sound were sending words of support.
